A training lesson typically lasts an hour, but, when there’s a need and time permits, our trainers are happy to offer additional time at no extra cost.
Our trainers help correct unwanted behaviors through a balanced, varied reinforcement approach. Basic commands may be introduced through positive reinforcement, involving shaping and luring. But above all, a foundation in the LIMA method (explained here) combined with a custom approach is what gets our best results.
Our trainers help owners use many different training tools depending on the situation, including martingale collars, slip leads, long lines, gentle leaders, prong collars, harnesses, and E-collars.
No. While an E-collar may be recommended for particular situations (off leash, advanced obedience, aggression, barking), in the end it is up to the owner whether or not to incorporate it into the training regimen.
When done properly, E-collar training enables dogs to stay off leash with less risk. They can especially help manage behaviors like jumping on guests, barking, separation anxiety, and for fine-tuning commands. They can also be a great alternative for some families who are considering installing an e-fence.
If your goal is to leave your dog in your yard unattended, then an E-fence could be a great solution. E-fence companies typically charge hourly for installation and subsequent training lessons. GPS E-fence technologies may be less expensive and less reliable than underground E-fence technologies. Not all breeds and individuals can be safely contained with an E-fence. E-collar training can be a great alternative to this if your goal is to simply be off leash with your dog in your yard.
Training can start as soon as you bring your puppy or dog home!
While this may depend on the individual dog’s disposition and owner’s ability to be consistent with structured training, expect to spend several months to a year fine tuning.
We only offer private lessons at the moment, but are working on creating group sessions down the road. Click here to get on our group class interest list.
We track progress by observing key behavioral milestones that lead up to an agreed-upon training goal, combined with a strengthening bond between the dog and human.
After every training lesson you will receive an informational recap email. We are always happy to connect directly with you over the phone, virtually, or in-person for additional advice and training.
Every dog and owner is different. We cannot guarantee that an owner does the necessary homework to maintain the training, nor can we rule out the role of genetics in determining a dog’s temperament and training limits. What we can guarantee is a uniquely tailored program to help an owner and dog make concrete steps toward improvement.
We understand that people are busy! At minimum, we recommend spending at least 15 minutes a day working with your dog in addition to the time spent on daily care.
With less than 24 hours notice given for cancelled training lessons there will be a $50 cancellation fee charged.
